Vanity Units

Whenever designing or remodeling a bathroom, it is very important to add ample storage space to your bathroom. With all the bath towels, toiletries and other bathroom items, you can say that storage in a bathroom is a top priority. One of the best ways that you can add this storage to your bathroom is by installing vanity units.

Vanity units have always been used as cabinets that hide the plumbing that is located below the sink, but they also have become a large part of the overall design of a bathroom while providing much needed bathroom storage. Before, bathrooms only had to store some soap, toilet paper, and oil, but nowadays they can include many different items such as towels, linens, shampoo and conditioner, hair dryers, hair and skin care products, cosmetics, shavers and many other miscellaneous items.

With this, vanities have become much larger and complex. Most vanity units for bathrooms now come with additional drawers and shelves to accommodate the extra storage needs of today's bathrooms.

Additionally, in today's market, vanity units are available in many different shapes, sizes, designs and colors to fit the design of any bathroom. While a basic vanity unit is one that is wide enough to hold a sink and has a few shelves built in, others are much wider with drawers or pull out baskets. The most common finish on vanities is definitely white, but you can also find great vanity units for bathrooms that have a wood or metal finish.

If the design of your bathroom is traditional, then it is probably best to go with vanity units that are either white or made from wood. They should ultimately match the millwork in your house, or match your furniture. If your bathroom design is much more modern, you can change things up a little bit by installing a brightly colored vanity unit that will stand out, or you could stick with a plain white cabinet to keep the look simple. For modern bathrooms, also consider vanities with a glossy black or grey finish, as they look very rich and simplistic in a modern bathroom.

When designing your bathroom, remember that you don't have to only use one vanity unit. It is often a much better option to use a basic vanity cabinet where the sink will be, and then install other cabinets such as drawer stacks or cabinets with shelves on the right and/or left of the central sink cabinet. This way you have separate sections of storage where you can store different items. Maybe you store all your cleaning supplies and extra shampoo and conditioner bottles under the sink, while you store your day-to-day toiletries in drawers and your linens in a totally separate cabinet.

When it comes to bathroom design, the options you have when utilizing vanity units is endless. You can easily tailor them to specifically meet your wants and needs, and their overall design can make your bathroom look great.
